My mom passed away 4 years ago, and my dad came to live with us. He turned 83 in September, and spends most of his time watching TV - a ridiculous amount of TV. Mostly old sitcoms like Andy Griffith and Gunsmoke. Lots of John Wayne westerns.
Unfortunately, those types of shows come with lots of infomercials and “as seen on TV” ads. He loves them all. The Egg Sitter cushion for his chair (“It looks like it works great on the TV”) and the Grab It to pick up stuff he drops (“On the TV It looks like it works much better than the one I already have”).
His latest obsession is the Slim Cycle. Mind you, he bought a $1200 recumbent bike last year that has done a great job of collecting dust since he never uses it. Now he wants the Slim Cycle - another exercise bike that he will never use.
I’ve been trying to ignore his request hoping he would just forget about it. No such luck. He called my sister today and complained about us ignoring him. So I just ordered the Slim Cycle.
If only there was a way to block infomercials from his TV!
