The bell rings, the kids grab their backpacks and head out the door, and Spring Break begins! As the last student leaves the room and the door closes, I revel in the quiet. It always amazes me how quiet it is when the last student leaves, the last bus pulls away, and the only person left in the room is me. I don’t even notice the constant buzz of voices that goes on all day in my classroom -- until it stops. As much as we love teaching, and love our kids, we all still enjoy the rare quiet once they leave.
As I walk down the quiet, empty hallway, I pass another teacher.
She smiles at me and I smile back. We don’t even have to say anything.
We’re both basking in the quiet.
